JCPenney was originally founded in 1902 as The Golden Rule in Kemmerer, Wyoming. By 1913, the brand took the name of its founder, James Cash Penney, and quickly expanded to 34 stores in the Rocky Mountain states. Today, after more than 120 years in business, the company runs more than 600 locations across the U.S., including its original Kemmerer location. Mr. Penney strongly believed in philanthropy, and today his philosophy is still evident in JCP’s business practices, with charitable initiatives such as the “Donate Your Change, Change Someone’s Life" campaign.
